Step 1 - Select a Video File
From the file explorer, go to any video file on your Mac and right click on it. Then, look for the Get Info option and access it. This will open a new window where you will be able to see the format and other details about the video.
Step 2 - Open With
In the same window where you have the details about the video file, you will also have an option called “Open With”. Click on it and you will see a list of all the apps that can run videos on your Mac. Of course, before you want to set default video player Mac, you should first install the app you want to use.
Step 3 - Select the Media Player from the List
Choose the prefered app that will run all your video files by default in the future. Make sure to click on Other at the bottom of the list in case you don’t see your favorite app.
Another option is to select the App Store option at the bottom of the menu and that will give you a list of software available for download. This will take you to the App Store and then choose the video player that suits your needs best. Our top choice is this video player for Mac - Elmedia.
Step 4 - Applying the Change
Now that you’ve completed the how to change default media player Mac steps, you just need to click on Change All and the new settings will be applied to all video files with that format. Another click to confirm the change in a pop-up box and that’s it.
Important: Remember that this is how to set default video player Mac for one format at a time. If you have various formats, you will need to repeat these steps for each one in order for all your videos and tracks to be played by the same media player. For example, changing the default video player for AVI files will mean you still need to repeat the procedure for MKV or MOV files.
